Why workshops in Qatar need a bilingual job card
Walk into any workshop in Doha's Industrial Area and you will hear four or five languages before lunch. Mechanics may speak Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Tagalog or Arabic. The service advisor writes in English. The car owner may prefer Arabic.
When the job card is only in one language, details get lost between the person who takes the complaint, the mechanic who does the work and the customer who pays. A job card with English and Arabic labels side by side gives everyone the same record, in a language they can read.
A clear, bilingual job card also makes the workshop look professional to Qatari customers, fleet managers and insurance companies. It shows that the workshop records the work properly and does not rely on memory.
Where workshops lose money without a proper job card
Complaints that change at collection. A customer says the AC was the only problem, but the invoice shows brake work too. Without a signed record of the approved work, the advisor has nothing to point to.
Insurance jobs that get stuck. Accident repairs need the claim number, the accident report, photos and the insurer's approval. If these are spread across phones and paper slips, the claim gets delayed and so does the payment.
Parts that are never billed. Small parts, refrigerant top-ups and extra labour hours are easy to forget when they are not written down as the work happens.
No history for returning cars. When a Land Cruiser or Patrol comes back after six months, the team cannot see what was replaced last time. That makes it harder to diagnose repeat problems or offer the next service.
What to include in a Qatar workshop job card
Every job card should use the same fields, so anyone in the workshop can understand the job without asking again.
Sample filled job card: a fictional Toyota Land Cruiser
The sample below shows a Land Cruiser that came in with two problems: an AC that stops cooling, and a front bumper damaged in a parking accident. The AC work is paid by the customer and the bumper is an insurance job. The customer, phone number, insurer and vehicle details are all fictional.

Notice three things in the sample:
- The complaint is written in plain words: "AC not cooling after 10 minutes."
- The insurance section is ticked, with the claim number and excess recorded before work starts.
- Labour is listed as separate lines, so the customer can see exactly what he is paying for.
How to use WhatsApp with your job cards
Most customers in Qatar would rather get a WhatsApp message than a phone call while they are at work. Use the job card as the source for short, clear updates:
- When the car is received: send a photo of the signed job card so the customer has the same record.
- After inspection: send the estimate and ask for approval before starting extra work.
- When the car is ready: send the final amount and the collection time.
Hello Mr. Mohammed, your Land Cruiser (job card JC-2381) is ready. The AC repair and bumper replacement are complete. The balance due is QAR 3,810. You can collect it today until 9 pm.
Keep every update linked to the job card number, so there is no confusion when several cars from the same family or company are in the workshop.

Problems with paper job cards
Paper is a good starting point, but it does not scale. Cards get oil on them, get left in cars, or go missing before the invoice is made. Handwriting in several languages is hard to read. And a paper card cannot remind a customer that his next service is due, or show you which mechanic has the most jobs waiting.
How MotorDesk handles job cards digitally
MotorDesk is Deviorin's workshop management software. Instead of writing the same details on paper, a service advisor creates a digital job card, records the complaint, assigns a mechanic, adds parts and labour, and connects the job to the final invoice.
Vehicle history is saved automatically, so when a car returns the team can see previous jobs, parts used and payments. Customers can be kept updated without the advisor searching through old chats.

FAQ
Do workshops in Qatar have to charge VAT?
expand_more
Qatar has not introduced VAT, so workshop invoices currently show amounts in QAR without VAT. Keep your records organised in case this changes in the future.
Should the job card be in Arabic or English?
expand_more
Both is best. Bilingual labels help mechanics, advisors and customers read the same record, and they make the workshop look more professional to local customers and insurers.
What should I record for an insurance repair?
expand_more
Record the insurance company, claim number, accident report, insurer approval, photos before and after, and the excess paid by the customer. Keep these with the job card until the claim is paid.
Can I send the job card to the customer on WhatsApp?
expand_more
Yes. Send a clear photo or PDF of the signed job card when the car is received, and again with the final amount when it is ready.
Can I use this job card in the UAE or other Gulf countries?
expand_more
Yes. The fields work for any Gulf workshop. Change the currency label, and add VAT lines on the invoice if your country charges VAT.
